The homestay with its mattresses on the floor, mosquito nets and white curtains draped from the ceiling was like paradise, a welcone retreat from the traffic of Vietnam. I could hear the boats chugging along the Mekong River just outside the room. The homestay is tucked away in a quiet village filled with market gardens and canals. I think I will stay a while.
I spent the day meandering on a bicycle through the flower village, drinking coffee and eating pho, so glad I came to this place that barely rates a mention in guide books. Lucky enough to have the company of Anh, to interpret and for us and her to practice English, and so i could avoid getting a serving of congealed blood with my pho. And Stefan, a fellow traveller from Germany, who was gracious enough to show me all the places he had already visited.
Yes, there is a frog farm out the back and no, they are not on the menu.
